Czech President Peter Pavel signed an amendment to the Criminal Code, which recognizes the propaganda of communist ideology by criminal offense along with Nazi propaganda.
According to Radio Prague International, Pavel approved the corresponding legal amendment with his signature.
According to an updated law, persons creating, supporting or encouraging Nazi, communist or other movements aimed at suppressing human rights and freedoms or to incite ethnic, national, religious or class hatred, may be sentenced to deprivation of freedom up to five years.
Previously, only Nazi propaganda was subject to criminal punishment, however, after the changes made to criminal liability, propaganda is now focused on the spread of communism.
