Death Toll From Devastating Storms In Mexico Rises To 66, 75 Missing

The death toll from floods caused by tropical storms Priscilla and Raymond in Mexico has increased to 66, and the number of missing people has reached 75.

Such data was given at a briefing at the National Palace by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, speaking about the consequences of heavy rains that hit the country on last week.

The head of state noted that a public website will be created to provide up-to-date information on the dead and missing.

According to the president, power supply has still not been restored in a number of areas, and more than 100 roads remain closed. Mexico’s armed forces continue to provide assistance in the worst-affected areas.

Sheinbaum visited the city of Tamasunchale in the state of San Luis Potosí, which was heavily damaged by flooding. “Our first priority is the restoration of roads, after which the reconstruction process will begin. We maintain contact with the families of the victims, collect information through their relatives and local residents,” said the head of state.

The President also emphasized that civil defense services and municipal authorities are working around the clock, providing the victims with food, drinking water and medicine.
