Death Toll From Floods And Landslides In Indonesia Rises To 248

The death toll from floods and landslides caused by heavy rains on the Indonesian island of Sumatra has reached 248.

Adverse weather conditions that have killed many people in recent weeks continue to take their toll.

Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency said rescuers have found more bodies. This brings the death toll to 248.

It is noted that more than 500 victims continue to receive medical care.

Authorities fear that the number of victims may increase, as blocked roads have prevented rescuers from reaching some areas.

Indonesia’s Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency warned that bad weather conditions will persist for several more days.

National agency The disaster management agency also reported that thousands of houses and buildings were flooded and thousands of families were forced to flee their homes.

Floods also damaged railways, bridges, rice fields, livestock and social infrastructure.
