Verkhny Lars checkpoint – passage through the only checkpoint on the border with Georgia – is closed “to a special order”, Russian media write with reference to the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergencies of the Russian Federation in North Ossetia.
“It is forbidden to move all types of vehicles on the site of the city of Vladikavkaz – Lars settlement in the direction of departure from the Russian Federation from 19:15 February 2, 2023,” the message said.
The department explained the decision to deteriorate weather conditions in Georgia. In this regard, it is supposedly impossible to ensure the safety of car traffic. The Ministry of Emergencies also referred to the recommendations of the Georgian border police.
Upper Lars is the only checkpoint on the border of Russia and Georgia. After the start of the first wave of mobilization, multi -kilometer lines of people who tried to leave Russia formed on it.
