The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey Abdulkadir Uraloglu announced the resumption of international vehicles between Turkey and Syria after a 13-year break.
In a written statement, the head of the department recalled that for a long time transportation was carried out only by transit, with mandatory overload of goods at the border. Now, trucks will be able to cross the Syrian-Turkish border without additional procedures.
“After 13 years of break, direct international transportation between Turkey and Syria began again. Yesterday, 4 trucks from the Mersin to Aleppo and 3 trucks from Idlib to Mersin, the Minister,
uralogllah, passed through the Dzhilvezo checkpoint. He recalled that transportation between the two countries practically ceased in 2011 due to internal unrest that began in Syria.
in the future, transportation was carried out only by overloading goods on the border, which slowed down the process and increased expenses. According to the minister, the process of restoring direct transportation began after the events in Syria in December 2024. In June 2025, at the Global Transport Corridors forum, held in Istanbul on June 27-29, Turkey and Syria signed a memorandum of understanding in the field of vehicles.
