During Collapse Of Quarry In Indonesia, 14 People Were Killed

Landfilling in the limestone career in the Indonesian province of West Java took the lives of 14 people.

According to the statement of the National Search and Rescue Agency of Indonesia, the tragedy occurred on May 30 in the ChiRBON region.

Rescuers found 14 dead under the rubble of the body. Another 12 people were extracted with injuries.

According to the authorities, from 6 to 8 people can still be under the rubble.

The search and rescue operation continues with the participation of police, military personnel, volunteers and with the help of five excavators.

The Governor of Western Java Dady Mulidi reported on social networks that back in February – before his election – visited his career and even then considered him dangerous, since he did not meet security requirements.

After the tragedy, according to the governor, the activities of this career, as well as four more similar enterprises in the province were suspended.

Illegal mines and careers in Indonesia are a common phenomenon. So, in 2024, at least 15 people were killed on the island of Sumatra as a result of a landslide gathering on an illegal gold mining mine.
