At present, the authorities of Tajikistan are not considering the issue of the possible accession of the country to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). This was reported by Kommersant with reference to the head of the Department of Information and Press of the Foreign Ministry of Tajikistan Shokhina Samadi.
Samadi commented on the words of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov, who expressed the hope that Tajikistan will “determine the benefits from joining the EAEU in the near future”.
As the representative of the foreign policy of the foreign policy specified, the parties did not discuss the integration of Tajikistan into the EAEU either at a meeting with the President of the Republic of Emomali Rahmon, or at negotiations with the country’s foreign minister, Sirodzhiddin Mukhridin, who took place the day before, June 6th
“The question of the accession of Tajikistan to the EAEU is not on the agenda. The issue of Tajikistan’s accession to the EAEU, which includes Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, has been discussed since 2015.
During a visit to Dushanbe on June 6, Sergei Lavrov expressed the hope that the Tajik authorities will still “soon determine the benefits of joining the Eurasian Economic Union.”
In another speech, the minister cited statistics: according to the Eurasian Development Bank, last year there were 44 percent of the volume of foreign trade of Tajikistan.
