Earthquake in Morocco has become largest in history of country over past century

A earthquake of magnitude 7 points, which occurred in the Moroccan city of Marrakesh on the night of September 9, has become the largest earthquake in the history of the country over the past century, the Morocco National Geophysical Institute reported.

In an interview with the MROCKAN MNA, the head of the institute Nasser Dzhabur said that the El-House epicenter was 80 kilometers southwest of Marrakesh and tremors were felt in a radius of 400 kilometers.

“The earthquake has become the largest in the history of the country over the past century,” Jabur noted.

According to him, after a powerful impetus, hundreds of aphthershoks followed, the most powerful of which had a magnitude of 6. Most of the aftershok was not felt, he said.

Earlier, the Kingdom of Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that at least 600 people were killed as a result of an earthquake in Morocco.

The department noted that powerful tremors were felt in many cities of the country.

There are those who died in cities such as: Marrakesh, Azilal, Agadir, Varzazat and Chichaua.

As the Moroccan media reported, which occurred at 23.10 local time, the earthquake was felt in cities such as Casablanca, Meknes, Agadir and Fes, and mainly in Rabat.
