EIB: Increasing quotas for tomato delivery will restore Turkey’s position in Russian market

Increasing quotas for the supply of tomatoes from 350 thousand tons to 500 thousand tons will contribute to the restoration of tomato export to Russia. This was announced by the Vice-President of the Association of Exporters of the Aegean region (EIB) Hayrettin Stud.

According to him, the relevant agreement was reached following the latest negotiations between the presidents of the Russian Federation and Turkey – Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

According to him, the volume of tomato exports in 2022 amounted to $ 377 million.

Turkey for many years has been the leading supplier of tomatoes to Russia, but this position in the Russian market has been somewhat lost due to problems with quotas in recent years, Uchir noted.

The Vice-President of the Association said that the volume of export of Turkish tomatoes to Russia in 2021 amounted to $ 68 million, and in 2022 it decreased to $ 33 million. “Thanks to the last agreement, we expect that Turkish export of tomatoes will be restored to Russia, and this country will again become the leader in export. We expect that by the end of 2023 the total export volume will reach $ 500 million. I would like to thank our president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, for the decision, for the decision, which paved the way for the sector. Good luck to all our manufacturers and exporters, ”added Stud.
