The wife of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Honorary President of the Zero Waste Foundation, Emine Erdogan, met with the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Tatyana Molcan within the framework of the International Zero Waste Forum.
After the completion of the International Forum, held in Istanbul under the slogan “Zero Waste Movement: People, Space, Transformation”, during a meeting closed to the press, Molcan congratulated Emine Erdogan on the successful holding of the forum and noted its great success.
Noting that Turkey is a country that is making very fast steps and achieving results, Molcan said that the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) Antonio Guterres also very encouraged by the forum.
Emine Erdogan thanked Molcan, noting that they always feel special support from Secretary General Guterres.
The meeting also discussed topics such as sustainable housing construction, sustainable forest protection, the introduction of sustainable production in the fashion industry, and the dissemination of waste management practices. Information was presented on the projects of the UN Economic Council for Europe in the field of environmental protection.
Molcan noted that she closely follows the activities of Emine Erdogan and highly values her, emphasizing that sustainability is dedication.
She recalled that Turkey has excellent experience in the field of sustainable development and can serve as an example for other countries in the region, especially in the field relationships between the public and private sectors. Turkey’s experience in the field of sustainable development can be useful for countries such as Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
The Executive Secretary added that UNECE has developed standards in areas such as transportation, storage and warehousing of food products.
The parties also discussed issues related to the development of organic agriculture.
