Erdogan: Türkiye will accept “strategically wise” decision on new NATO Secretary General

The decision of Turkey regarding the elections of the new Secretary General of NATO will be based on “strategic wisdom and justice.”

This was stated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at a joint press conference with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte in Ankara.

The head of state emphasized the close economic interaction between Turkey and the Netherlands.

He recalled that Turkish entrepreneurs provide about 80 thousand people in the Netherlands, and the volume of their investments in the country’s economy is 6 billion euros.

According to him, the volume of bilateral trade in Turkey and the Netherlands reached $ 13 billion last year. “We strive to increase this figure to 15 billion at the first stage, and then $ 20 billion,” he said.

Mark Rutte, in turn, emphasized the key role of Turkey in ensuring NATO security. “NATO southern flank needs Turkey and its leadership,” the politician said.

Rutte noted that Türkiye is a “geopolitical player who has great influence in the region.”
