Estonia President Supported NATO Plans To Increase Defense Costs To 5%

The decision made at the NATO in The Hague Summit to increase defense expenses to 5% of GDP is a correct and necessary step to ensure the safety of Europe. This was stated by Estonian President Alar Caris on the social network x.

The president emphasized that the implementation of the agreement reached is critical “in the context of an ongoing threat from the Russian Federation.”

“an increase in defense costs to 5% and the fulfillment of this agreement is of key importance for European security in the face of a threat from Russia,” he wrote.

The Estonian leader also noted the importance of continuing the support of Ukraine, including her desire to join NATO.

“We will continue to support Ukraine, including on its way to NATO,” he said.

In addition, Caris added that the strengthening of the defense industry and the rapid introduction of innovations will increase the stability and power of the North Atlantic Alliance.

On the eve of the NATO Summit in the Hague, they agreed to increase defense costs to 5% of GDP by 2035.
