Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna will visit Turkey tomorrow.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tsahkna will meet with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. During the talks, Fidan is expected to express satisfaction with the growing cooperation with Estonia in the field of defense and military relations, emphasize Turkey’s strategic role in the European security system, discuss the activation of high-level dialogue mechanisms, the renewal of the Customs Union and the implementation of the Visa-Free Dialogue, as well as priority issues in Turkey’s relations with the EU.

Fidan is also expected to note Estonia’s long-term support for Turkey’s accession to the EU, and emphasize commitment Turkey’s efforts to quickly end the war between Russia and Ukraine and ensure a just and sustainable peace. An important issue will be the maintenance of the ceasefire in Gaza and the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid, as well as the acceleration of international efforts to restore the sector.

On Syria, Fidan is expected to emphasize the need for immediate implementation of the March 10 Agreement to preserve the territorial integrity of the country, the importance of anti-terrorism actions led by the Syrian government and the need for the speedy lifting of all sanctions on Syria.

Turkey’s support for Estonia’s NATO membership (2004) and Estonia’s support for Turkey’s accession to the EU contributed to strengthening cooperation. In 2024, bilateral trade was approximately $521 million, with the goal of increasing it to $1 billion.
