Ethnic Ukrainian can become Secretary General of NATO

The post of Secretary General of NATO is the candidacy of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Canada Christ Freeland, ethnic Ukrainian. This is reported by the CBC television channel.

According to a senior official from NATO quoted by the channel, there are prerequisites that the next Secretary General of the Alliance will be one of several “highly qualified women” considered for this post.

Four sources from Brussels, Washington and Ottawa claim that in the circles of international defense and security, it was Friland that was mentioned as a possible successor to the current Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg. It is emphasized that knowledge of the Russian language and the features of the Kremlin’s work can be a big advantage for it.

Friland herself in response to the journalist’s question about her possible appointment to the post of Secretary General said that she already has two works.
