The Chairman of the European Commission Ursula von der Lyain said that at the G7 summit in Canada discussed with US President Donald Trump and instructed the working groups to speed up the negotiations to achieve an agreement on duties.
In the publication on a social network made based on the results of participation in the work of the summit, von der Lyain noted that the summit has provided an opportunity for deep and constructive discussions between partners.
“I discussed with President Trump the most important issues – from the situation in Ukraine to trade,” she stressed.
The Chairman of the European Commission added that she instructed the working groups to speed up work in order to achieve a fair and mutually beneficial trade agreement.
On May 23, US President Donald Trump announced his intention to introduce 50 percent duties on goods from the EU from June 1, but after a telephone conversation with von der Lyain the United States, they decided to postpone the introduction of these duties before July 9. All this time the parties conducted active negotiations on the topic of the agreement.
