EU Calls On US Not To Delay Introduction Of Sanctions Against Russia

European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas called on the United States not to delay imposing sanctions against Russia.

Kallas made a statement to the press following the EU-Asia-Pacific Ministerial Forum in Brussels.

Responding to a question about the 28-point plan that the US administration is said to have prepared to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, she stressed that any terms of a peace agreement must be determined by Ukraine.

“Today was the day when US sanctions against Russia were supposed to come into force. I hope today we will not hear anything about these sanctions being postponed, because this is exactly what Russia wants,” Kallas said.

As for the EU, the High Representative expressed caution regarding the use of Russian assets frozen under sanctions for the needs of Ukraine: “We must be very decisive so as not to get caught into this trap.”
