European Union could not agree: Hungary Blocked an embargo on Russian oil

The representatives of 27 countries of the European Union at the meeting on May 8 could not agree on a new, sixth package of sanctions against Russia, writes Bloomberg. Hungary still refuses to support the embargo for the purchase of Russian oil, and to accept the package of sanctions, it is necessary that all the countries of the European Union approve of it.

Despite the fact that the EU previously proposed to allow Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia to continue the procurement of oil from Russia until 2024, the Hungarian authorities believe that this is not enough, since the country will need additional funding to reorient for other supplies.

Negotiations on the new package of sanctions will continue in the near future.
