European Union explained tasks of mission on Armenian-Azerbaijani border

On Thursday, October 20, the EU mission began working on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border from Armenia.

The message posted on the EU website says that the mission will fulfill two main tasks: to maintain the strengthening of confidence between Armenia and Azerbaijan by monitoring by both sides of the ceasefire; It will follow the situation in the border areas between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which will allow the European Union to better support the work of border commissions of two parties.

“EU observers will also ensure observation of events taking place along the bilateral border … They will not have a function of investigation,” the report said.

The EU monitoring mission will be reported to the corresponding institutions and services of the bloc on their observations along the border border. It will not draw conclusions of a political nature on the basis of the data obtained. The mission is not military, only civil observers will be deployed within its framework.

On Monday, October 17, foreign ministers of 27 countries of the European Union agreed on a civil mission to solve problems on the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia. They decided to send up to 40 EU experts to the Armenian side of the border with Azerbaijan for monitoring, analyzing and drawing up reports on the situation in the region.
