European Union warned: Serbia and Kosovo are about to flare up

The European Union warned of the possible escalation of the conflict of Serbia and Kosovo after they could not come to an agreement to decision a dispute on car license plates used by ethnic Serbs. It is reported by Reuters.

“after many hours of discussion … Today, both parties did not come to an agreement. I think that on the sides of both leaders there is an important responsibility for the failure of negotiations today and for any escalation and violence that may occur in the next days,” said The head of the EU foreign policy, Josep Borrel, in a statement for journalists.

He also said that the European Union put forward a proposal that would reduce tension. It was adopted by President of Serbia Alexander Vucic, but not Prime Minister Kosovo Albin Kurti.

Josep Borrell emphasized that he would inform the EU member states about “non-compliance with the two countries of its international legal obligations” and warned that, given their commitment to entry into the bloc, they should act accordingly.

“The Serbian side was completely constructive, and we took texts that were changed 10 times, but the Albanian side did not want to accept anything for a second, they always added what was clearly impossible,” said Alexander Vuchich to reporters.
