European Union will transfer millions of iodine tablets to Ukraine

The European Union transfers to Ukraine 5.5 million picket tablets to protect people from radiation irradiation in the event of an release on the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant captured by the Russian troops.

According to CNN, the European Commission called the sending of drugs a “preventive measure of security” and clarified that the Ukrainian government requested a party of pills. Potassium iodide protects the thyroid gland from the accumulation of iodine radioisotopes in case of radiation pollution.

Russian troops hold the station almost from the very beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, but the station’s performance is supported by Ukrainian engineers.
