Existing vaccines may not be effective in combating “Omicron”

The effectiveness of coronavirus vaccines will significantly fall due to the advent of the new strain “Omicron”. This was stated by the executive director of Moderna Stephen Bansiel, reports Financial Times.

According to him, the vaccines are now much less effective in relation to the Oomikron strain, monthly will be held before the companies will be able to produce preparations for new strains on a large scale.

Bansiel added that the presence of a large number of mutations in the spin-shaped protein of the new strain COVID-19 and its rapid spread to South Africa suggest that the currently existing vaccine may need to be changed next year.

According to the executive director, Moderna, most experts believed that such a strongly mutated version of Coronavirus, like “Omicron”, will not appear for another or two years.
