Export of citrus fruits from Turkey over three months increased by 12%

The volume of citrus exports from Turkey in January -March of this year increased by 12.22 percent compared to the same period of 2022 – up to 351 million 855 thousand dollars. Such data are given by Anadolu with reference to the Association of Exporters of the Mediterranean region.

According to the association, in January-March of this year 603,488 thousand tons of citrus fruits were exported.

In the first quarter of 2022, Turkey realized 791936 tons of citrus fruits in the amount of 313 million 544 thousand dollars.

The most popular products from among the Turkish citrus fruits in the period under consideration became mandarin, lemon, grapefruit and orange.

Russia became the leading importer of Turkish citrus fruits – $ 149 million. This is followed by Ukraine – $ 33 million, Poland – $ 25 million, Romania – 15 million and Bulgaria – $ 12 million.

In an interview with Anadola, the deputy head of the National Association of Citrus City Turkey Kemal Kachmaz said that citrus fruits occupy a significant niche in Turkish export of fresh fruits and vegetables.

According to him, the production of citrus fruits this year is not at the desired level, but the export indicators reached in the first quarter delight manufacturers.

“The sector of citrus – the locomotive of the Mediterranean region. Contrary to the fact that the export of citrus fruits in the first quarter of the year showed a fall by 24 percent in kind, in price expression an increase of 12 percent was recorded. Initially, a military conflict between Russia affected the production of citrus. Ukraine, and later destructive earthquakes that affected companies with large volumes of exports. We expect that in the coming period export indicators will grow thanks to the measures taken by the Turkish government, as well as its further steps, ”said Kachmaz.
