Few days are left before first loading of nuclear fuel at Akku NPP

A few days remain before loading nuclear fuel in the first power unit of Akku NPP in the Southern Turkish province of Mersin.

On Thursday, April 27, Akkui will receive the status of a “nuclear object”. Thus, another critical stage in the implementation of the project will end.

Akkui NPP, one of the largest projects of Turkey on the volume of investments, will make a great contribution to the country’s energy independence.

ANADOLOSISTOME ANADOLUS AND AND THE COMPLETE POSITION OF A station before an important event and captured the main points of work.

It is expected that the first power unit of the station will be commissioned after preliminary test tests and preparations that will follow the loading of nuclear fuel.

The fuel rods that will be delivered to Turkey will be used to generate electricity within 1.5 years after the commissioning of the first NPP of Turkey. At the end of this period, the spent rods will put a cooling pool, after which they will be transferred to a special zone for storage.

Thanks to the fuel rods, without the release of carbon dioxide, an electricity will be made, equivalent to the energy that can be obtained using 124.5 thousand coal wagons.

Akka NPP is being built on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey in the Gulnar region.

The station is built on a Russian project, which includes the construction and commissioning of four power units with reactors of the VVER-1200 type.

The agreement on the construction of the station was signed on May 12, 2010.

according to the terms of the agreement in December 2010, the Russian side established the design company of Akkui Nuclear JSC on the territory of the Turkish Republic

On April 3, 2018, during a joint ceremony in Ankara, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin on video communications gave the construction of the station.

Thus, full -scale construction work on the construction of the first power unit has officially began.

After 2 years, with the start of the construction of the second block on April 8, 2020, the work was gained.

March 10, 2021, a solemn pouring of concrete took place for the third power unit.

The foundation of the fourth and last block was laid on July 21, 2022.

construction and installation work is carried out simultaneously on all four blocks.

The first in Turkey, the Akkhu nuclear power plant became the largest nuclear power plant in the world, where all 4 power units are under construction.

The work continues throughout the construction site, thousands of personnel are involved, mainly citizens of Turkey. At the very peak of work, the number of staff reached 30 thousand people.

Today, 140 thousand tons of reinforcement have been used, 1.3 million cubic meters of concrete are flooded.

more than 1300 units of heavy equipment are involved in the construction of the nuclear power plant.

Akkui uses VVER-1200 generation reactors “III+” with a capacity of 1200 MW.

The service life of Akkui NPP can be extended up to 80 years.
