Foreign Minister Kuleb: Ukraine managed to avoid risk of an annual veto on allocation of financial support of EU

Ukraine managed to avoid the risk of an annual veto on the allocation of the EU financial support. This was stated by Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Kuleb on the air of the uniform news telemarathon, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Telegram.

Kuleba noted that Hungary wanted to make this decision with consensus every year. “If such a norm had passed, one could apply a veto, there would be these risks again, there would be discussions and blackmail again. But this could not. This norm, and this is a big victory,” he said.

According to him, the decision to provide the European Union of macropinance assistance in the amount of 50 billion euros as beneficial as possible for Ukraine, since the introduced mechanism of the annual assessment does not provide for consensus approval and will not occur at the level of the European Council.

“Ukraine for four years received 50 billion euros of the EU support. This is the amount that speaks for itself,” he said.

The Foreign Minister emphasized that the decision on the annual assessment in no way violates the interests of Ukraine.

“This will be a working tool, and it is absolutely normal, adequate, we ourselves are interested in the effectiveness of European assistance and, most importantly, meets real needs. Because the situation can develop differently, and, accordingly, this tool must maintain a certain flexibility, ”Kuleba explained.
