Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan and Iran discussed bilateral relations 6 March

March 5, 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Azerbaijan Republic Jahun Bayramov, as part of an extraordinary meeting of the heads of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Islamic Cooperation (OIS), met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Islamic Republic Iran Hussein Amir Abdullahiyan.

During the meeting, ministers discussed bilateral and regional issues, as well as the current situation in the region.

The Iranian Minister once again conveyed congratulations on the successful outcome of the presidential election in Azerbaijan and the re -election of President Ilham Aliyev to this high post. He emphasized that these elections are especially significant, since they were held in all territories of Azerbaijan.

The ministers also exchanged views on steps to restore the work of the Azerbaijan Embassy in Tehran after the court sentenced in respect of the person who committed the attack on the territory of the embassy.

The parties discussed plans to expand contacts at the highest level, the importance of the intergovernmental joint commission of economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran, the development and expansion of transport and communication corridors in the region.

Minister Jahun Bayramov noted that the 29th session of the conference of the parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-29), which will be held in our country this year, created additional opportunities for cooperation.

He informed the Iranian side of the current regional situation, as well as on the current situation and prospects of the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that the intervention of Armenia in the process of third parties that do not serve the world and stability in the region, as well as the efforts of some states in arming Armenia pose a threat to the peace process. The meeting also discussed other bilateral and regional issues of the current agenda of cooperation between the two countries.
