The Foreign Minister of Turkey Hakan Fidan announced the country’s readiness to accept the third round of peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul. This was announced by the head of Turkish diplomacy on the air of the A Haber television channel, answering the question of whether the Russian and Ukrainian sides will meet again in Istanbul.
Fidan noted the importance of the implementation of decisions taken by the parties within the framework of the already held round of negotiations.
“We see that there is a desire to move to the third round. The Russians also made a preliminary statement on this issue. We are ready to accept and are ready to play our intermediary role. Let us make a contribution to the cessation of the war or to some extent alleviate the suffering in this war, for example, by exchange of prisoners, bodies, wounded and children,” he said.
The question of what will be the reaction of Ukraine after Russia’s statement about the readiness for the new round of negotiations in Istanbul, Fidan said that the parties informed each other about their positions at the previous meeting and this will be discussed at the next negotiations.
The Turkish minister indicated that the parties had already informed each other about their positions and conditions for ensuring the ceasefire, but this issue is not so simple to solve it for several meetings.
The most important thing is to create the opportunity to hold a number of substantive and effective meetings in the place where such strong hatred reigns. The ability to organize and conduct all this is a really important area of diplomatic leadership of Turkey and our president, ”said Fidan.
