Foreign Minister Of Turkey Will Visit Russia On May 26-27

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will visit Russia on May 26-27 at the invitation of his Russian colleague Sergei Lavrov.

According to information received from sources in the Turkish Foreign Ministry, as part of the visit, the Foreign Minister of Turkey will be adopted by Russian President Vladimir Putin, and will also hold a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov.

In addition, Hakan Fidan plans to hold bilateral negotiations with a number of high-ranking Russian officials, including assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky, who headed the Russian delegation at Russian-Ukrainian negotiations in Istanbul on May 16, as well as with the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Andrei Belousov.

It is expected that during the meetings the issues of bilateral relations between Turkey and Russia – two key players in their region will be discussed in detail. Particular attention will be paid to the current situation in areas such as trade, energy and tourism, as well as possible steps to deepen cooperation.

The minister also intends to emphasize Turkey to achieve a fair and strong world in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war, expressing satisfaction with recent progress in this process.

It is expected that Hakan Fidan will again confirm Turkey’s readiness to contribute as an intermediary, as it happened in 2022 and at the meeting on May 16, 2025.

In addition, an exchange of opinions on a number of regional and international issues is expected, including the situation in Syria, Gas sector and the South Caucasus.

Recent high -level contacts between Turkey and Russia

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan made his last visit to Russia on June 10-11, 2024 to participate in the BRICS meeting+.

He also took part in the BRICS summit, held on October 24, 2024, when he accompanied the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The last meeting of Fidan with Sergey Lavrov was held on April 12, 2025 on the fields of the diplomatic forum in Antalya.

Before that, Lavrov visited Turkey on February 23, 2025, where he also held negotiations with his Turkish colleague.

In addition, the Russian Foreign Minister took part in a meeting of the 3+3 regional cooperation platform, which took place in Istanbul on October 18, 2024, chaired by Khakan Fidan.

The ministers also met on February 20, 2025 in Johannesburg on the sidelines of the meeting of the heads of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the G20.
