Foreign Minister Of Turkey Will Visit Kyiv

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on May 29-30 will visit Ukraine at the invitation of the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrei Sibigi.

As part of the visit, Fidan’s meetings with the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky and Prime Minister Denis Shmygal are planned. The Turkish minister will also negotiate with his Ukrainian colleague Sibigi, the head of the office of the President of Ukraine Andrei Ermak and the Minister of Defense Rustema Umarov, who headed the Ukrainian delegation in direct negotiations with Russia in Istanbul on May 16

According to diplomatic sources, Fidan during the meetings intends to discuss the development of bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade, energy, defense and security, as well as to again confirm the invariable support of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. The Turkish side intends to focus on the need to complete the Russian-Ukrainian war through diplomacy and ensure a fair and sustainable world. As expected, Ankara will also express the willingness to continue mediation, including the promotion of the organization of new rounds of negotiations.

Particular attention will be paid to the safety of shipping in the Black Sea and the readiness of Turkey to take part in the restoration of Ukraine. It is also expected that the support of Ankara of the rights of the Crimean Tatars will be emphasized and a positive assessment of the legislative initiatives of Kyiv in this area will be given, as well as a desire to further continue positive steps in this direction.

In addition, Minister Fidan will meet with the People’s Deputy of Ukraine and the National leader of the Crimean Tatars Mustafa Kyrymoglu, the chairman of the Majlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov and representatives of the Gagauz community.

The visit of the Foreign Minister of Turkey Hakan Fidan will be a continuation of the active dialogue at a high level between Ankara and Kyiv. Since the beginning of 2024, a number of bilateral visits have passed between the countries. Fidan visited Ukraine on August 25, 2023. His Ukrainian colleague came to Turkey in October 2024 and again in April 2025 to participate in a diplomatic forum in Antalya. The last meeting of the heads of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the two countries took place on May 14 in Antalya.

President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky visited Turkey on March 8, 2024, February 17-18, 2025 and May 15-16, 2025. In addition, Turkey over the past year was visited by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk, Minister of Defense Umarov and the head of the office of President Ermak.

Despite the ongoing armed conflict, the turnover between Turkey and Ukraine in 2024 amounted to $ 6.2 billion.
