The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrei Sibiga held on June 20 telephone negotiations with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia by Bayboy Brazh, during which the parties discussed the deepening of bilateral cooperation, as well as preparation for the NATO summit in the Hague. This was stated by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
Sibiga congratulated his Latvian colleague with a recent election of Latvia as a fosite member of the UN Security Council for 2026-2027.
“This is a recognition of the fundamental foreign policy of Latvia and the personal leadership of my colleague in restoring respect for the UN Charter and International Law,” he said.
The ministers agreed to further strengthen cooperation within the framework of the UN and coordinate positions on the eve of key international events, in particular, NATO summit.
The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry expressed gratitude to the Seima Latvia for the adoption of a statement with a call to NATO member countries to speed up the process of inviting Ukraine to the Alliance.
During the conversation, the issues of increasing pressure on Russia were also discussed to achieve a sustainable and complete ceasefire, satisfy the priority defense needs of Ukraine, as well as promoting Ukrainian European integration, including the opening of negotiation clusters with the EU.
