Foreign Ministry Of Turkey: Greece And Greek Administration Of Southern Cyprus Continue To Attempts To Impose Their Maximalist Claims To EU

Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ONGU KECHELI said that the results of the Summit of the leaders of the European Union (EU) show that Greece and the Greek administration of the Southern Cyprus continue to attempts to impose their maximalist claims, which contradict international law and the principle of justice.

Press Secretary of Kecheli published a statement about the results of the EU leaders summit on the social network X.

“The results adopted at the EU leaders summit on June 26 show that the efforts of Greece and SCGA to impose the EU of their maximalist claims that contradict international law and the principle of justice, – the statement said.

In his publication, the diplomat emphasized that the memorandum of mutual understanding, signed between Turkey and Libya in 2019 regarding the division of the zones of maritime jurisdiction in the Mediterranean Sea, is an agreement that is fully compliance with international law. This indicates that Türkiye will never allow violating its legal rights and interests.

“The EU politically motivated biased statements on such a sensitive issue, which has legal and technical aspects, such as delimiting of marine spaces, do not serve the regional world and stability,” the spokesman emphasized.

According to him, the EU must invite all its members to observe international law instead of accepting claims that have no legal force.

“Türkiye will continue to decisively defend its legal rights and interests in the Eastern Mediterranean as part of international law,” summed up the official representative of the Foreign Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ojju Kecheli.
