Ankara carefully monitors the events in the Iraqi province of Kirkuk. This was stated by the official representative of the Turkish Foreign Ministry Ondig Kecheli in his account on the social network x.
The diplomat emphasized that the “fundamental expectation” of Turkey is that Turkmen compatriots are properly represented in the political life and state structures of Iraq.
“This issue is especially relevant in Kirkuk in the context of personnel appointments and permutations that should occur there in all state institutions, primarily in the provincial council,” he said.
The speaker of the Turkish diplomatic notification noted that the appointment of a head is not from among the Turkmen to the municipality of Altunkruv, where the Turkmen population lives compactly, caused discomfort and disappointment to the Turkmen community.
“The world and stability in Kirkuk, which with its ethnic and confessional diversity is a small Iraq model, is essentially a key to peace and stability in all Iraq,” summed up the representative of the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

In the subporaion of Altunkru Kirkuk in Iraq, where Turkmens live compactly, their representatives were not included in the leadership of the local administration. This caused a negative reaction from the local population.
On June 30, a crowded demonstration of protest against the current situation was organized.
Having not received a response to their requirements, the participants in the action set the tents and blocked the movement on the Kirkuk-Eritil highway.
Following this, local authorities announced the intention to form a commission to revise the distribution of powers in all institutions and structures of Altunkruv.
