Former prime minister of Kazakhstan was sentenced to 18 years in prison

The specialized interdistrict criminal court of Astana, a convict sentenced to the former Prime Minister of the country, ex-chairman of the National Security Committee (KNB) of the Republic Karim Masimov and his deputies in the case of the January (2022) riots, the press service of the court said.

“The punishment was finally sentenced – 18 years of imprisonment, with confiscation of property, with a lifelong deprivation of the right to occupy positions in the civil service,” the report said.

Masimov was accused of treason (part 1 of article 175 of the Criminal Code), forcibly seizure of power in Kazakhstan (part 3 of article 179 of the Criminal Code) and exceeding power and official powers (Clause 3, Article 362 of the Criminal Code) .

Masimov’s case was investigated under the heading “Top Secret.”

He was taken into custody during the investigation of January 8, 2022.
