Former Torture Center In Syria Converted Into Modern School

The building in the Khan Sheikhoun area of ​​the Syrian province of Idlib, which was used as a prison during the reign of the ousted regime of Bashar al-Assad, with the support of Turkish non-governmental organizations, was transformed into a modern school with a capacity of 960 students.

The site served as a prison for many years, but thanks to the Association of International Students Asma Köprü and Hayır Yolu Association, it has undergone extensive restoration and turned into an educational center.

The educational institution, called “Hittin”, is equipped with classrooms, a library, a solar power system and a reservoir to meet the needs of students in the region.

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of Turkish and Syrian civil society organizations society, as well as the Education Advisor at the Turkish Embassy in Damascus, Musa Budak.

From the “house of torture” – to the center of knowledge

Speaking at the ceremony, the chairman of the Association of International Students Asma Köprü Hanefi Sinan said that the building previously served as a place of torture.

“Before the liberation, this building was a real center torture. Thanks to the efforts of our friends, it has been transformed and is ready to accept students,” he said.

The Education Counselor at the Turkish Embassy in Damascus, Musa Budak, in turn, noted the importance of education in the process of rebuilding the country.

“We must work hard to revive this country and give future generations peace and tranquility. And it all starts with education,” he said. he.

Meanwhile, the head of the Federation of International Student Associations (UDEF), Muhammad Abdullah Islam, in his speech noted the resilience of the Syrians in the face of the difficulties they face.

The head of the Khan Sheikhun region, Hassan al-Amin, in turn, emphasized the importance of the school.
