Fourth tier of Vosoo is installed on second power unit of Akka NPP

In the reactor building of the second power unit of Akkui NPP (nuclear power plant), the first nuclear power plant of Turkey, the installation of the fourth tier of the internal protective shell (Voso), which belongs to the main elements of the security system of the nuclear power plant.

, has successfully completed.

According to the company, the internal protective shell consists of a steel cladding that ensures the tightness of the reactor compartment and special concrete.

The total mass of the fourth tier of Voso is more than 144 tons, the diameter is 22 meters, the height is 8 meters.

The installation of the structure at the block No. 2 of Akku NPP was carried out for three months using the heavy caterpillar crane Liebherr LR 13000 and two hydraulic devices.

Also, for the installation of the fourth layer of Voszoi, a special traverse was developed, which protects the prefabricated design from deformation when the crane is moving.

First Deputy General Director – Director of Akkuy NPP, Sergey Butsky noted that an important element of the reactor building is the internal protective shell consisting of structures of various forms.

The fourth layer is the last of the cylindrical structures, then the process of assembling the dome part, which is planned to be installed this summer, will begin, he said.

“Our many years of experience allows you to save time and maximize the use of available resources. Next, it is planned to weld the third and fourth layers, strengthening and mounting embedded parts,” Butskiy said.

Buildings of reactors of power units of Akkui NPP are equipped with double protective casings.

The reinforced concrete external protective shell is designed for earthquakes by force up to 9 points, tsunami, hurricanes and combinations of extreme external factors.

The project of the first Turkish nuclear power plant includes four power units with VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 4800 megavatts.

The first block of nuclear power plants will be commissioned in 2023, to the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Turkish Republic.
