Italian ambassador to Paris Emanuel d’Alalesandro was called to the Foreign Ministry of Foreign Affairs after the “unacceptable statements” of Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Italy Matteo Salvini. This was reported by local media with reference to a diplomatic representative who wished to remain unnamed.
“The ambassador reminded that such statements contradict the atmosphere of confidence between the two countries, their historical relations and recent bilateral events. Indeed, these events, especially in the context of the unconscious support of Ukraine, demonstrated the strong close of the two capitals, ”said the representative.
Earlier, Salvini ridiculed the idea of sending Western troops to Ukraine. He suggested President of France Emanuel Macron “take a helmet and rifle and go to this country himself.”
