France prosecutor’s office demanded trial of ex-president of Sarkozy in case of “Libyan money”

The National Financial Prosecutor’s Office (PNF) of France demanded a trial in a criminal court against ex-president Nicolas Sarkozy and twelve people appearing in a loud case about the Libyan financing of his presidential campaign of 2007.

This is reported by the French media.

According to this source, the PNF requires that the former official who led the state from 2007 to 2012, who disputes these facts, has appeared to the court for “passive corruption”, criminal conspiracy, illegal financing of the election campaign and concealment of theft of Libyan state funds.

The prosecutor’s office unveiled a 425-page indictment with a demand to give PRUSSISI and 12 other suspects in this case, including, in particular, the former head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Claude Gean, ex-minister of French budget Eric Verta, one of the closest assistants Sarkozy Bris Ortefe. The prosecutor’s office accuses the former president of France of “passive corruption, participation in the criminal community, illegal financing of the election campaign and embezzlement of state funds.”

Earlier, the media reported that Sarkozy received tens of millions of euros from the leader of Libyan Jamahiria Muamar Gaddafi to his campaign, was elected President of France, and was soon one of those leaders of the Western countries that supported the overthrow of the colonel. For nine years of investigation, from 2012 to 2023, the investigation formally did not find signs of illegal financing of the sarcose campaign.

The intermediary of the alleged transaction was the Franco-Liva businessman Ziyad Takeddin, who claimed that the Libyan leader transferred money to the French policy not only to the election campaign, but also for other goals. Later Takedddin, who claimed that he transferred “suitcases with money” to the ex-president of France to the Libya authorities, unexpectedly abandoned his words.

However, in 2018, the prosecution made a version that in 2006 he received 50 million euros from representatives of the Libyan leader to the election campaign. Sarkozy calls accusations against him slander.
