Frederick Stroke Did Not Have Enough Voices To Choose Chancellor Of Germany In First Round

The leader of the Alliance of the Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union (HDS/CSS) Friedrich Mertz during the elections in the Bundestag could not gain enough vote for the selection of Germany in the first round.

Voting took place on Tuesday, May 6.

“For” the candidacy of the Merets voted 310 members of the parliament. 307 people voted against, three deputies abstained. In total, 621 people took part in the vote, one bulletin was invalid.

The European Parliament Deputy Friedrich Mertz did not receive the required majority of 316 votes.

According to the results of early parliamentary elections at the end of February 2025, the conservative block of the CDU/CSS (Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union) received a total of 628 seats in the legislative body.
