Bundestag in the second round of voting elected the leader of the Alliance of the Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union Friedrich Merets Chancellor of Germany.
The politician scored 325 votes with the required 316 to obtain the majority. 289 deputies voted “against, one abstained. Three more ballots were invalid.
Earlier today, Mertz during the elections in the Bundestag could not gain enough votes for the election of the chancellor in the first round.
“For” the candidacy of the Merets voted 310 members of the parliament. 307 people voted against, three deputies abstained. In total, 621 people took part in the vote, one bulletin was invalid.
The European Parliament Deputy Friedrich Mertz did not receive the required majority of 316 votes.
According to the results of early parliamentary elections at the end of February 2025, the conservative block of the CDU/CSS (Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union) received a total of 628 seats in the legislative body.
Friedrich Mertz became the tenth chancellor in the history of the country after the Second World War.
