Geneva Officially Adopted An Agreement On Fight Against Pandemics

General Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adkhan Goebreesus announced the official adoption of an agreement on the fight against pandemias, negotiations on which have been conducted for more than three years.

The corresponding decision was made at the 78th session of the World Health Assembly in Geneva, which takes place from May 19 to May 27.

“The World Health Organization has officially adopted the WHO agreement on the fight against pandemia. I express the warmest congratulations to the WHO member states for their commitment to improving the security of their people and the world,” the head of the WHO in the social network of x.

WHO agreement was adopted the day before by the Committee of the World Health Assembly 124 votes “FOR”. 11 countries refrained from participating in the vote.

In December 2021, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, the WHO member states decided to establish an intergovernmental negotiation body (MPPO) for preparation and coordination in accordance with the charter of the project of the Convention, Agreement or other international tools to strengthen measures in the field of pandemics to prevent and take response measures.
