Georgia For Deepening Cooperation With China

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze met with Chinese Prime Minister Li Jiang in Shanghai.

According to a written statement by the Georgian Prime Minister, Kobakhidze and his accompanying delegation, who are on a visit to China, met with Chinese Prime Minister Li Jiang in Shanghai.

During the meeting, Kobakhidze emphasized the importance of relations between the two countries: “Relations between Georgia and China are steadily developing on the basis of the principles of mutual respect, equality and cooperation.”

Noting that China supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia, Kobakhidze said: “Georgia supports the principle of one China and the territorial integrity of the PRC.”

Drawing attention to the growth of exports from Georgia to China, Kobkhadze added: “We are ready to deepen our cooperation in order to further increase transport flows between China and Europe through the territory of Georgia.”

The Prime Minister of Georgia, expressing his readiness to further strengthen relations with China, said: “Georgia, which is an important part of the Middle Corridor, is ready to expand cooperation with China in order to further develop regional ties and trade.”

Li, in turn, recalled that China has raised relations with Georgia to the level of a strategic partnership: “We want to strengthen strategic ties with Georgia, expand practical cooperation and jointly bring more benefits to our peoples.”

Following the meeting, memorandums were signed between the two countries on the development of cooperation in the fields of agriculture, civil aviation and investment.
