Georgia: for mockery of animals, Migitus to deprive of period of up to 4 years

In Georgia, on August 1, amendments to the Criminal Code entered into force, involving tightening punishment for mockery of animals.

According to amendments, torture or cruelty to the animal, which has entailed injuries, will now be punishable by home arrest for a period of six months to one year or imprisonment to two years.

A similar action committed by a group of persons, publicly, repeatedly, in the presence of minors will be punishable by a fine, or domestic arrest for a period of one year to two years, or by imprisonment for up to three years.

Animal torture or cruel treatment of death will be punishable by a fine, or by house arrest from one year to two years, or by deprivation of liberty for a term of one year to four years.

A similar action committed by a group of persons, publicly, repeatedly, in the presence of minors will entail a penalty of a fine, or house arrest from one year to two years, or imprisonment for a term of two to four years.
