Georgian GDP in first quarter of 2023 increased by 7.7%

Georgian GDP growth in the first quarter of this year amounted to 7.7 percent compared to the same indicator of 2022, the National Statistics Service of the Republic (Sakstat) reports.

According to preliminary data, the volume of GDP at current prices in the first quarter amounted to 16.4 billion Lari (over 6.2 billion dollars).

growth was observed in such industries as: information and communications (44.2 percent), construction (15.1 percent), trade (14 percent), public administration and defense (10.5 percent), education (13, education (13, 4 percent), as well as art, entertainment and rest (17.2 percent). The decline was recorded in the manufacturing industry (-6.6 percent), health care and social services (-12.7 percent), mining sector (-10.8 percent).

In May, the IMF increased the forecast of economic growth for Georgia by 2023 from 4 to 5 percent. This corresponds to the forecast indicators approved by the state budget.
