Georgian Parliament Was Condemned By US Congress “Act Megobari”

Georgian parliament condemned the bill Megobari Act, supported by the House of Representatives of the US Congress, which provides for sanctions against the country’s authorities. This was reported by Georgian media.

Parliamentarians rejected the allegations that the country is rolling away from democracy, blocking Euro -Atlantic integration and getting closer to Russia and China.

The authors of the statement emphasized that Georgia has been holding honest and fair elections, and there have been no diplomatic relations with Russia since 2008.

“The political relations of Georgia and China are at the same level as the relations of the United States and China,” the declaration said.

Georgian deputies noted that after 2012 not a single Georgian politician visited Russia.

May 6, 2025, the House of Representatives of the US Congress adopted the bill Megobari Act (the Law on Strengthening and Expanding the possibilities of Georgia for accountability, stability and independence).

The bill involves the introduction of large -scale sanctions against the Georgian leadership “for refusing democracy and rapprochement with China, Iran and Russia.”

The act was supported by 349 members of the Chamber – 168 Republicans and 181 Democrat. 42 congressmen opposed, and the same was either not voted or abstained.

For entry into force, the document must be approved by the Senate and signed by the US President.
