Georgian Prime Minister Garibashvili announced resignation

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced retired. His place can be taken by the head of the Georgian Dream party Irakli Kobahidze.

Today at 17:00 local time in the capital of Georgia, a briefing of the Prime Minister of the Republic Irakli Garibashvili took place, at which he stated that he was leaving the post of head of government.

“I want to inform the public about the decision that we discussed with the team, today I am leaving the post of prime minister,” Garibashvili said.

According to him, he received an offer from the political council to take the post of chairman of the party, whose congress will be held on February 1.

Irakli Garibashvili was appointed Prime Minister of Georgia in February 2021. Earlier, he already held this position in 2013-2015. In the same years, he was the chairman of the Georgian Dream party.

Georgian media connect such a decision with the approaching parliamentary elections that are scheduled for October 26th.
