German Chancellor Asked Turkish President To Use His Influence On Russia

German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz asked the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to use his influence on Russia to ensure the peaceful settlement of the war between Ukraine and Russia.

The Chancellor stated this at a press conference after the completion of the summit of the heads of state and government of NATO in The Hague.

“After three and a half years of this terrible war and bloody events in Ukraine, I asked President Erdogan to use his influence on Russia in order to put the Russian president at the negotiating table so that a peaceful decision was finally found,” the German Chancellor said.

Merts also noted that Türkiye is ready to take on the role of an intermediary in possible negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, and thanked Erdogan for his readiness to offer Istanbul or Ankar as the place of such a meeting.
