Türkiye is an extremely important and valuable NATO ally. This was stated by the German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz.
The new German Chancellor promised to do everything possible to preserve and strengthen this partnership.
Speaking at a joint press conference with the NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the headquarters of the Alliance in Brussels, Mertz noted that Türkiye plays a key role in ensuring security in a strategically important region.
Answering an ANADOLA correspondent question about Turkey’s contribution to the European defense industry, Mertz said that this issue was discussed with Rutta.
“Turkey protects the territory that cannot be ignored by its strategic significance. Therefore, it remains an extremely important and valuable NATO partner for us. I will do everything possible to maintain and develop this cooperation within the alliance,” the Chancellor said.
Mertz emphasized the importance of Turkey’s commitment to a partnership in NATO, and also said that in the near future he would visit Turkey at the invitation of the country’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Speaking about the supply of Eurofighter fighters, Mertz said that this decision will be made to the government.
