German Ministry of Defense intends to purchase ammunition for € 118 million

The Minister of Defense of Germany Boris Pistorius has intended to apply for the Bundestag’s budget committee for the purchase of 16 thousand artillery ammunition over the next two weeks, Der Spiegel reports.

In total, we are talking about nine contracts worth 118 million euros.

In particular, the Ministry of Defense will purchase 155 mm shells for the Panzerhaubitze 2000 howitzers from the Rheinmetall concern.

At the moment, in the arsenal of the German Armed Forces there are 20 thousand units of shells with a caliber of 155 mm. In accordance with NATO standards, by 2031, Germany needs to have at its disposal 230 thousand units of shells.

At the end of February 2022, Bundestag approved the allocation of 100 billion euros for defense needs, including the purchase of new equipment, ammunition and equipment.
