German political scientist: West will support positions of Azerbaijan

The West cannot have real pressure on Baku, European influence is small enough, German political scientist Alexander RAR Armenian media said.

According to the RAR, until 2020, Armenia had a lot of support in the West, where they argued a lot about what actually dominates in international law – the inviolability of the sovereign territory of the state or the principle of self -determination of peoples.

“there were great disputes, but Kosovo received independence, and this played into the hands of Armenia, which could say that in Karabakh it protects its national minority from Azerbaijan, so part of the world community was on the side of Armenia. The situation changed after the start of the war in Ukraine and conflicts that began before. The whole West firmly embarked on the position that the issue of self-determination of national minorities went into the background. And Armenia lost serious support in this regard, since international law began to interpret in the West differently. Therefore, the West will support the positions of Azerbaijan “,” the political scientist emphasized.

Rar believes that squeezing Russia from Transcaucasia “is currently an overwhelming task for the European Union.”

The political scientist emphasized that all Western resources are now thrown into Ukraine. “Weapons are supplied against Russia, tanks, humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, there is a restoration of the Ukrainian economy by Western loans, there are geopolitical interests of the United States and Great Britain to move Russia completely from Europe through Ukraine,” he emphasized.

In this situation, Transcaucasia is a secondary direction for the EU, the political scientist noted. “The European Union has no strength and interest in the Southern Caucasus, except for the desire to create a symbolic mission, which is also good,” the expert emphasized.

Rar also added that the region is extremely explosive, and Europe is not interested in the new war in the South Caucasus.
