Germany and Sweden have signed a memorandum of understanding to deepen defense cooperation between the two NATO member countries.
The memorandum was signed during the Berlin Security Conference by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and his Swedish counterpart Pal Jonsson.
The agreement creates the basis for joint training, the acquisition of advanced technologies and interoperability between Germany and Sweden.
Defense Minister Pistorius said in a statement that Sweden’s accession to NATO has added a new quality to the partnership, and added: “We have become even closer to each other, we are firmly connected to the Alliance.”
According to information on the Ministry of Defense website, the memorandum creates an ongoing basis for cooperation and dialogue at all levels in areas such as joint training, procurement of modern technologies, capability development, interoperability and cyber defense.
The Memorandum provides for cooperation between the two countries at all levels, including military, defense cooperation, capacity development, cyber security and related areas.
