German Embassy in Washington called on the US Congress not to introduce restrictive measures against the North Stream-2 gas pipeline. This is reported by AXIOS with reference to an informal document that came to his order.
According to the portal, the German authorities stated to the American colleagues that the input of sanctions against the gas pipeline and related to it directly or indirect companies will weaken the credibility of the United States and “will ultimately damage transatlantic unity.”
The document states that now the pipe does not constitute a threat to Ukraine, “while reasonable gas transit” through this country is guaranteed. It also suggested that the possible US sanctions against the “Northern Flow-2” could be the “victory of Putin”, as the restrictions will bring a disorder with the Western Allies.
In addition, the document notes that Germany is determined to carry out a joint agreement with the United States to support Ukraine, energy security and climatic purposes of July 21 to strengthen both Ukrainian and European energy security and “to hold back Russia from the abuse of gas pipeline in aggressive political purposes. “
